En esta ocasión Juan Escobar, profesor asociado del Departamento de Ingeniería Industrial de la Universidad de Chile, presentará el trabajo «Mechanism design under wealth inequality».

Abstract

This paper explores how to allocate a divisible good to agents who are privately informed about their valuations and wealth. Wealth is distributed in the population of agents and restricts the purchasing ability. We characterize the optimal mechanism. The optimal mechanism rations rich agents to serve poorer agents.  We derive conditions under which all agents in the economy are served.  Market design implications are discussed.
